Bill to Extend GSP, ATPA Passed by House12/15/2009
The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill to extend the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and the Andean Trade Preference Act (ATPA).
On December 11, 2009, Charles B. Rangel, the Chairman of the House of Representatives' Committee on Ways and Means, introduced H.R. 4284. If passed, the bill would extend both GSP and ATPA for one year, through December 31, 2010. The bill also calls for a report on ATPA by June 30, 2010.
The programs will expire on December 31, 2009 unless legislative action is taken.
The bill is currently in the Senate.
